Have you ever heard the saying that when you cease to dream you stop living? I came across this quote the other day on a poster in the waiting room of the dentist office. It really struck a cord with me because I began to realize that I had stopped dreaming about some of the accomplishments I wanted to make. I had set aside many of my dreams to raise my family and to work a job so that I could pay my bills. I was working in the field that I had my education in, but I was working for someone else. I had wanted to have my own business and reap the benefits that come with being the boss. I knew that there extra headaches and responsibilities that come with being the owner of a business, but I wanted to try my hand at this.

When I was little, my mom was always very open with me about anything I had on my mind. She was always talking to me about things that were important to her, and one of those things was supporting the small businesses in the area. Though I had no idea why this was so important when I was a kid, this was something she talked about and did. We rarely went to large chain stores, but rather, would shop when possible at the locally owned establishments.

Small Business to Start

Most people talk about starting a business online, but they fail to think about having one from their own home first. This would mean building up a business at home that has local customers and then going to the world wide web to expand. There are a few good reasons to do this, and most don’t think of them in their hurry to see profit. Going online right away when you have thought of a small business to start can be a mistake if you are going into business for yourself for the very first time.

Small Business Ideas

The right small business ideas can make a big difference in your life even if you aren’t the type who usually thinks of himself as an entrepreneur. After all, starting a small business does not have to be a full-time occupation. A good friend of mine got a small business grant to start a part time auto detailing business. All it really involved was updating some of his automotive supplies, renting a store front, and going in after work a couple days a week. It made him a fair bit of extra cash, and best of all he was able to keep his old job while he was doing it. That way, while he was working on starting a small business, he still had a way to pay the bills.

I’ve been running my own company for a few years now. Back when I first opened my doors, I knew it would be tough to stay afloat in the early going until I could establish solid relationships within the industry, and I didn’t expect to make a profit right off the bat. Even so, I had a feeling that with hard work and dedication, I could get out of the red in a reasonable amount of time.

Starting a Small Business

People really hate to admit if they are stuck in a rut. This is different than following a routine. A routine is a way of staying organized to make the most efficient use of time. A rut is doing something because that is the thing you have always done, being in a rut rarely has a great deal of enjoyment. It took me a while but I had to admit to myself and my husband that I was stuck in a rut. I did not get any enjoyment from my job and the only reason I was going to work was to gather a pay check. I believed that there were more enjoyable ways of earning a living.
