A lot of things about opening a business are difficult, but you never really realize how hard advertising new business is until you try it yourself. Don’t get me wrong – there are many simple techniques for business advertising. The problem is that not all of them work. We live in a pretty small town, so we thought that we would do it in a pretty low-key way. I was opening a new restaurant downtown, and I figured that enough people would see it whenever passing by to scare up some customers. Just to be sure, we painted a big sign in front of the place, had a sort of grand opening ceremony, and even put up an ad in the newspaper.

Public Relations Firms
March 4th, 2008 · No Comments
Today many big businesses are having a difficult time with how the public views them. A huge part of the reason is that there has been so much publicity regarding the large salaries and benefits that the corporate executive officers get paid. It is bad publicity to have heads of corporations making millions of dollars when the average stock holder is getting minimal dividends. Having the salaries and fringe benefits of corporate leaders exposed through the media makes the average wage earner angry. In this day and age of many people living from pay check to pay chick news that one person is making millions of dollars is not well received.

Product Logos

Anyone with something to sell must have a logo for their company. You may think that only applies to products, but those offering services should have them as well. Anything set up to make money should have a symbol or graphic that identifies the company instantly to anyone who sees it. This is a smart marketing move because you can put product logos almost anywhere, and a smart person will do just that. They may seem small, but they can have a huge impact on success.

Radio Advertising

You may not listen to the radio anymore, and that might lead you to believe that radio advertising is pretty much dead. Though there are some that switch to satellite radio so they can get shows they want and avoid the advertising, there are still plenty who like to listen to the radio in their cars when traveling, and they want to keep the local flavor that comes with disc jockeys. Radio is a good way to stay informed, and even if listener numbers are going down, this is still a viable advertising venue for most.

Product Samples
When you are interested in a new product, it is sometimes too painful to go out and spend a lot of money just to see if you like it. If something you are interested in costs more than five dollars, it certainly seems to be a little risky to try it out by buying the full-sized version. This is why product samples are so popular. When you get a sample, you have the opportunity to try out a product before you spend money buying the full version. I have found that product samples have often helped me decide if a product is worth the money or not.

Anyone with a retail business should know about point of purchase displays. You, as a consumer, already see these all the time, but you may not realize why they are placed where they are, and what they are meant to do. You know that your eyes are drawn towards these, but do you know why it is that you only see certain products in these displays? These are very useful for the smart retailer, and can help boost profits, even if just a little bit.

Television Advertising Cost
February 28th, 2008 · 1 Comment
With television advertising costs, you get what you pay for. Although it is possible to make a decent TV advertisement without spending an arm and a leg, it doesn’t happen all that often. Unless you have connections you can exploit or excellent production resources which are already at your disposal, you will have to hire everything. You will have to hire actors, a sound stage, video and audio equipment, a producer, a sound technician, and a writer. And none of that even gets into the costs of buying airtime. Without shrewd planning, television advertising costs can get completely out of control.
